How Arms Preservation Inc. Rapidly Prototyped a MIL-PRF-81705 TO 11A-13-10-7 Compliant Storage Bag - Arms Preservation Inc

When a U.S. Air Force unit needed an anti-corrosion packaging solution, they specified TO 11A-13-10-7.

They also required MIL-PRF-81705 material for moisture control and electrostatic discharge protection.

Arms Preservation Inc. used its proven multi-layer VCI approach to build a TO 11A-13-10-7 compliant firearm storage bag.

This case study explains the design change, the prototype path, and the results.

If you manage an armory, storage cage, or deployment kit, this shows what “compliant” looks like in the real world.

Project requirement: TO 11A-13-10-7

TO 11A-13-10-7 is used to control how sensitive assets are preserved for storage and transport.

For small arms and related components, it drives requirements for moisture protection and ESD control.

The unit asked for a TO 11A-13-10-7 compliant firearm storage bag that could be opened, inspected, and resealed.

Design approach: VCI + MIL-PRF-81705 barrier

API’s standard multi-layer bag combines a corrosion-inhibiting VCI layer with a barrier layer.

For this project, we replaced the typical barrier film with MIL-PRF-81705.

MIL-PRF-81705 is a military-qualified, static-dissipative barrier material.

It supports moisture vapor protection and helps reduce static risk during storage and handling.

What stayed the same

  • Multi-layer VCI corrosion protection for metal surfaces inside the closed package.
  • Reclosable hook-and-loop closure for repeat access and faster inspections.
  • A bag format sized for common small arms storage workflows.

What changed

  • The barrier layer changed to MIL-PRF-81705 to meet the TO 11A-13-10-7 packaging requirement.
  • Build parameters were adjusted to keep the seal, strength, and handling feel consistent.

Rapid prototyping and evaluation

We built prototype samples that paired our VCI structure with the MIL-PRF-81705 barrier.

The unit evaluated the prototypes for fit, usability, and compliance expectations.

After feedback, we confirmed the final configuration and moved into production.

Results

  • Fast turnaround: prototypes to production in weeks after approval.
  • Standards alignment: TO 11A-13-10-7 goals supported through the MIL-PRF-81705 barrier choice.
  • Better readiness: less rework, cleaner storage, and simpler periodic inspections.

What this means for armorers and program teams

A TO 11A-13-10-7 compliant firearm storage bag is not just “a thicker bag.”

It is a controlled storage environment that reduces corrosion drivers.

It also adds ESD-aware barrier performance where required.

If your unit has a preservation requirement, start with the standard.

Then match the material stack to the requirement, not the other way around.
